What started out helping during the COVID-19 emergency to improve morale for South Florida front line medical professionals is now needed in West Michigan. They went from a 3.7% to 26.8% Covid positivity rate in two weeks. The team and system is overwhelmed, and a little love from us can boost morale.
From March to August we were able to care for Healthcare Heroes in South Florida and at the same time support our local restaurants that have had their operations significantly diminished.
Together with 84 donors , so far we have coordinated 3,025 meals and sweet treats for Superheroes in Scrubs! Consider helping by donating to the effort.
My amazing big sister Michelle oversees the nursing staff for two ERs in MI and when we have talked at night during the COVID-19 crisis, it is usually at 9 pm or later as she is headed home after a 14 hour day where she hasn't eaten anything since before 11 am, just like many of her team. With visitation restricts staff is doing double duty as defacto family and loved ones, holding hands and giving comfort to those in needs. Anything we can do to bring a little joy with a warm meal so they don't have to think about what to eat or a sweet treat when they need a little comfort of their own.
What started out as a long-distance hug from a little sister in SoFL to her Healthcare Hero big sister in MI, quickly evolved into an outpouring from so many in our local community and friends from around the country. By asking friends and family to combine some funds, we buy dinner for a hospital staff every night (or lunch if they prefer) depending upon what we are able to raise. I have produced many culinary experience events so reached out to some great restaurateur friends who have helped stretch our dollars as far as possible.
We coordinate with administrators at Broward Health, Memorial Healthcare System/Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, Aventura Hospital & Medical Center, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Holy Cross Hospital to ensure that we follow protocols for acceptable food donations for their staff.
We have made a difference and help improve morale. The $14,000 goal is to make sure that we can provide dinner to these hard working women and men for the duration of the peak period. All funds go directly to purchase food for the staff and I posting the daily delivery efforts on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/jennifer.homan.399.
