On Friday, July 7 Melanie and Louie Whitten's 12-year-old son, Trapper Whitten suffered severe trauma to his left leg. Trapper was taken via ambulance to Cruz Field near Raton, NM and then flown to UNMH in Albuquerque, NM via helicopter. The family was planning a trip to Albuquerque that morning and Trapper was excited to see his cousin play baseball and go shopping for a new fishing pole at Cabela’s.

Since that Friday morning Trapper has undergone numerous surgeries, one to repair an artery in his leg and ensure blood flow to his foot, another to stabilize his bones in an external fixation device and help relieve swelling to his leg and another for wound vac care. He will need to have his bones reconstructed in his leg with wires, plates, screws or rods and that will be another surgery to come. With that, his stay in the hospital will be extensive.

He has good blood flow to his foot and mom and dad are hopeful that Trapper will get to keep the use of his leg. The team of doctors and nurses at UNMH have been amazing with Trapper.

Trapper has been so strong and he has been in good spirits, he thanks everyone for the ongoing prayers for his healing.
