Medical Alert Dog for Emily Rain
Hi, Emily Rain here (the gal sporting the super fashionable insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor in the accompanied pic) and I’m raising money for the purchase of a medical alert service dog. Specifically, a diabetic alert dog to help in managing my daily life with Type 1 diabetes.
I was diagnosed with Type 1 in 2019, right as I was working on finishing up my Master’s program in Social Work. I was oblivious to the signs of my deteriorating health, but eventually after being wholly unable to focus on an assignment and deciding I must be sick- I went for a quick stop in an urgent care was told my blood sugar was over 700 and surprise! I had diabetes and was in diabetic keto acidosis . Still not knowing what that meant, I was admitted to the ICU for days as I quickly learned about my new condition, and what this meant for the rest of my life.
I’m a pretty independent person and am still genuinely pretty on top of my health and diabetes management. That being said, having some extra support for my health would be sooooooo helpful. Having a service dog would help me stay on track of my daily management of my health, while also giving me peace of mind when I’m home alone (and have a bad habit of sleeping through my alarms that go off when my sugar reaches dangerous levels).

If you didn’t already know, service dogs are pretty pricy any are usually (such as in my case) not covered by insurance. For me: the cost of acquiring this dog runs a total of roughly $10,000 (whew! that’s a big chunk of change).
I am so grateful to those who have donated and allowed for me to put a deposit down on my training program and pup. Now, I am working on saving for the paymentsto continue the service dog training program.
Vesper - the future diabetic alert service dog :)
If you know me and feel a need to get me a present for any sort of occasion, this is a great option! If you just wanna send some contributions my way because you are extra cool - THANK YOU!
