McKinley's Mended Heart

Donation protected
The Majors Family has 5 children. McKinley was born with a heart condition and medical and personal bills are piling up. Kayla is having to stay out of work to tend to McKinley's daily needs.  The family would appreciate any donations you could make to help them through this most difficult time.

McKinley was born on February 19 with multiple heart defects including Double Inlet Left Ventricle (DILV), Double Outlet Left Ventricle (DOLV), Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), Atrial Septum Defect (ASD), and Pulmonary Stenosis. She spent two weeks in NICU at Northside Atlanta before being transferred to Egleston Children’s Hospital where she spent 4 weeks in Cardiac ICU (CICU) and in the Cardiac Stepdown Unit (CSU). While McKinley’s heart will never function normally, through a serious of open heart surgeries and lifelong medical interventions we are hopeful that she will be able to live a relatively normal life.

When we arrived at Egleston we were under the impression that McKinley would soon be undergoing a surgery for a PA (Pulmonary Artery) band. However, the doctors have been satisfied in how they have been able to control her heart failure with medication and wanted to give her time to grow.  The decision was made to forgo the PA banding for now and try to make it to her Glenn operation without the band.

On March 16, McKinley had a cardiac catheterization and an atrial septostomy. This procedure gave the surgeon more information about her heart and also opened up her atrial septum in order to give her better blood flow in her heart.

Unfortunately, McKinley suffered a stroke during this procedure. This was discovered after she began having seizures. McKinley has been followed closely by neurology since her stroke and they are optimistic about her recovery and prognosis. She is now taking seizure medication and will continue to have periodic scans for monitoring.

Most recently, it was discovered that McKinley has a blood clot in one of her legs. The doctors have been very cautious in her treatment because of her history of stroke. Under the care of hematology, she is currently receiving injections that she will continue long term to treat the clot.

We would like to thank everyone for your prayers for McKinley. There are no words to express how much we appreciate everyone who has reached out to our family!
