Help Mason Get to Swaziland

Donation protected
My name is Mason Hill and I am an aspiring pediatric physical therapist from Tacoma, WA. I am humbly asking for your help to fund a service trip to Swaziland, South Africa, where I will be working in a disability rehabilitation clinic by the name of Cheshire Homes.

Inspiration/Reasoning:

The inspiration for this trip is that I plan to work at improving the state of pediatric physical therapy in developing regions throughout my lifetime.
Therefore, this trip serves two primary purposes. First, to improve my awareness of global health issues, specifically conditions arrising from poverty, common in developing nations. Second, to improve my skills as a therapist by working with and learning from Australian and local physiotherapists in the treatment of these ailments. This experience will be invaluable to draw upon during my time obtaining my doctorate of physical therapy, an undertaking I will begin in August.

Background:

My ambition for working in developing regions began when I entered a video contest on Facebook sponsored by a medical supply company called MDF Instruments. The challenge was to make a video stating what crafting wellness means to you and the prize was airfare anywhere in the world for a medical mission. I lost the competition by a very slim margin and was crushed. However, during the course of the contest I was put in contact with a physiotherapist in Malawi who was in turn, able to connect me with a therapist that works in Swaziland. I was informed that I would be welcomed as a volunteer and that this certain rehabilitation clinic is the only one in the country, meaning there would be a wide range of patient populations and diagnoses. The perfect learning environment!

I contacted MDF, sharing my plans for the upcoming trip. They have very generously offered to fly me to Kenya on March 25th to assist with an acute care clinic in Tanzania held by a medical missions group and to fly me home on July 15th. This is an enormous help but the list of other expenses looms large. At least four flights to various countries, hotel fares, apartment rent in Swaziland, travel insurance, food, and other extraneous fees such as visas etc. I have estimated that I will need about 5-6,000 USD to complete this once in a lifetime opportunity. Any money raised that is not spent on this venture will be donated to Cheshire Homes on my departure. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and hopefully for donating and/or sharing this page with your family and friends.
