Masks for the Richmond City Jail

Friends! Our sisters and brothers being held in jails and prisons are at an extremely high risk for contracting COVID-19. There is limited PPE, no possible way to safely social distance, and conditions are especially hospitable to the spread of this dangerous virus.
Our ultimate goal is for these friends and family members to be safely brought home. In the meantime, you can help support the health and safety of these folks.
The Richmond City Jail has a supply of thin masks that have been given to its residents and Voices of Jubilee is working to raise money to quickly purchase fabric masks that can be placed over their existing masks to help increase their effectiveness. $1500 will purchase 10 packs of 120 Bella fabric masks , totaling 1200 masks for residents. These masks are semi-reusable and this number of masks will cover current residents, allowing for disposal as needed. It is our understanding that these masks can be delivered and distributed quickly.
Over the past two and a half weeks, we delivered more than 550 homemade masks to Bon Air Juvenile from all around the city of Richmond.
We are calling upon the Beloved Community of mask makers, advocates, and friends again.
This is not a long term solution BUT we hope that, as a community, to provide these as another means of support so that folks can stay safe. We stand with these essential sisters, mothers, aunts, brothers, fathers, uncles, friends, children.
No amount is too little! and if you are interested in sewing masks, please reach out -- we will still be taking those to the jail as well. Please only masks with elastic ties, and no metal in them.
