Mary Turner Project Fundraiser

Donation protected

Dear friends and MTP family,

Founded in 2007 to work for racial justice and racial reconciliation in the deep south, the Mary Turner Project is currently working to raisefunds to continue and expand our work. As a grassroots, multi-racial, multi-generational grassroots racial justice organization that anyone can be a part of, this is the first time in our 14 years of work that we have attempted to raise money so that we can continue and expand what we do.

Some of our current work includes providing free research services to the descendants of lynching victims, developing a free/public lynching database, developing a free/public database of the 1860 Slave Census, and challenging Confederate culture in the deep south. For more about the details of what we do simply visit https://www.maryturner.org/work.html.

Currently we are working to raise approximately $17,000 to continue what we currently do and that is our 2021 fundraising goal. That amount will cover a small salary of $13,000 for our full-time Coordinator's (the first time they will be compensated in 14 years :) ), $2,600 for assorted organizational expenses (eg. website space, printing costs, open records request costs, media production, research website subscription costs, etc.), $400 for the re-installation costs of the Mary Turner historical marker (that was removed because of extreme vandalism) and $1000 for an annual MTP scholarship fund that will be established in Valdosta, Georgia. From that fund two
$500 scholarships will be awarded annually to area students involved in working for racial justice in the region.

So we hope you will consider contributing to our fundraising efforts this year, please share this with your social networks, and we thank you for your support!

Peace and love to you all,

Mark Patrick George

Here are some photos of just some of the vandalism that has been done to the Mary Turner historical marker, why it was removed, and why we will be reinstalling it this Fall 2021.

And here is the 8 foot steel cross that stands in the place of that historical marker.
