Mark Grand out of pocket medical expenses

Donación protegida
Hi everyone!

I wanted to give you an update on my husband Mark. As some of you may know, he’s been dealing with a bad bacterial infection (cellulitis) in his arm which then spread to his left ankle. On top of that, due to his diabetes he has neuropathy in his left leg which has been very painful. He also has a blood infection and was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 6. They discovered he also had an infection in his right big toe and pneumonia. Due to all of these infections with his toe and ankle/left foot his doctors ended up having to amputate his left foot about 9" below his knee and remove his right big toe. His left ankle bone was pretty much crumbling due to neuropathy, cellulitis, diabetes and the blood infection. The surgery was on Saturday, December 12. He's doing ok considering and is still trying to process it all since they originally told him they would wait 6 months to decide about surgery and then told him he would have surgery the next day.  He has now left the hospital and was moved to a rehab center in Century City where he will be there for about a month. Due to COVID, which he tested negative (silver lining), he is unable to have visitors. I think this part has been the hardest but as he says “he is glad he is not dying”.

He seems to have a very good attitude about his physical and occupational therapy, which will serve him well in the coming months. He still has a long road ahead but for now he is expected to leave the rehab center and come home around January 6. This date is still to be determined. Due to COVID he has not been able to have any visitors. I will be going to the rehab center for some "family training" in order to help him transition at home. This will be the first time I will be able to see him since he entered the hospital on December 6. I'm a little nervous and anxious about seeing him but hopefully it will brighten his spirits. I’m hoping to get a few more answer about his longer term care and status of a prosthetic. I have no idea how long this would take. Samantha will be taking the training the beginning of next week since she will be home with him while I work. I will probably take a week or so off around the middle of January just to help with the transition.

I know Mark’s little buddy Oliver (our dog) will be SO happy to see him when he gets home. He really misses Mark and their morning walks and Mark really misses Oliver. He’s so sad without Mark around. Although Oliver does perk up for his walks and treats! Samantha has promised Mark that she would take Mark around the block in his wheelchair so that they can keep their morning walking routine. Oliver is going to love this and so should Mark!

With the love and support of family & friends, the power of prayer, and a dedicated team of medical professionals - it is time to begin the journey towards rehabilitation.

2020 has been a very turbulent year for many, there certainly has been no shortage of obstacles. Everyone is being forced to change routines, priorities, and budgets. Financially, Mark’s surgeries  have added a bit more stress to the ever-changing economic hardship brought on by the pandemic. I am writing in hopes to help raise money to cover the out-of-pocket expenses for Mark’s  rehabilitation. If you have the means, any donation, prayer, advice, or thoughtful message is greatly appreciated by my family.

It’s going to be an interesting 2021 as I think it may take a year for him to heal and get fitted with a prosthetic lower leg.

Thank you for your love and support.
