Hello friends and family of Marissa,
As you all know, our friend Marissa Kellett has experienced a devastating loss recently. Her husband Peter passed away suddenly from complications due to Cystic Fibrosis on January 29th, 2017 at the age of 34. It is awful to lose a loved one at any age, but of course to lose someone so young brings with it other challenges and complicating factors. Prior to his passing, Marissa had also been struggling with some health issues and has not been able to work for the last several months. She and Peter had been on a long journey searching for help, and a complete diagnosis in order to receive the most effective treatment. When Peter fell ill, they were in the process of getting an assessment done with a psychiatrist and psychologist. Marissa recently received a diagnosis of ADHD, with co-occurring depression, anxiety and eating disorder. The psychologist has recommended treatment options, but they are not offered through the public health care system (or, they are offered but are either not accepting new referrals, or have waiting lists that exceed a year). Peter had been working full time and had insurance that covered Marissa. They were therefore were able to bill appointments for psychology services to the insurance provider. With his passing, Marissa has a period of three months where she is still covered by insurance but then it will be cut off.
Marissa is actively getting involved with grief support groups and a return to work program through the Canadian Mental Health Association. The psychologist has also recommended that she pursue a combination of cognitive behaviour therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy in order to learn how to effectively manage her challenges, and ultimately thrive. It is very important that Marissa receive the necessary support and treatment, especially given this trauma that she has gone through, and she is dedicated to healing, both for herself and for Peter.
