Help Marisela Recover

Marisela sustained critical injuries to her neck and pelvis in a car accident, and can’t work while her medical bills keep increasing (even though she is insured).

While she was a passenger she was badly injured and needed emergency pelvic surgery and suffered serious neck fractures. Maricela now has to spend months in rehabilitation, and she might still need neck surgery. She is responsible and has been paying for her own health insurance, but to her surprise some of the doctors who attended her during the emergency were out of network. She has already accumulated over $10,000 of medical bills and she still has a long way to go. She is currently in a rehabilitation center, but her health insurance will only cover 25 days. Her neck injuries need about 8 months to heal, and this process could be longer if she doesn’t take care of herself or if she needs neck surgery. She will also need physical therapy for months.

Maricela is a person that has been working nonstop and incredibly hard every day trying to make a good life for her and her son. As a single mother her goal has been to provide a stable home for her little family and send her son to college. Right now she can’t work and like many, she needs a job to say afloat. Some out of state relatives had to fly in to help her because she had to give up the apartment she had just moved into and put all her belongings into a storage unit. Her son is currently staying with some friends.

I wish Marisela could just focus on healing and not worry about where her and her son will live, nor be overwhelmed with medical bills piling up while she has zero income.

My name is Barbara Fortuny and I’m here asking you to help an amazing human. Marisela has been my boy’s babysitter for more than 4 years. She is reliable, trustworthy and best of all my boys adore her! They even ask us to go out so they can play with Marisela: she will jump with them in the trampoline, build with Legos, play with clay, read books…

I am asking you to please help her and her son. If there are many of us, a little help can make a big difference. We can help avoid the life of two people being destroyed by bad luck. We can all share the burden and help Marisela accomplish her dream of a better life for her and her son.
