As a society, it is our OBLIGATION to take action against racism, no matter what race we are or what differences we may have. All humans deserve to have the same rights and opportunities in this world, and we ask that you join committee members, Griffin Wei, Reece Nugent and Dreanne Joseph, in doing our part.
The three of us are part of the Cross Country team here at Southampton High School, and the tagline for our team is “Family”. This family includes people of all different athletic capabilities, ethnic backgrounds, and situations at home. We join together as one at each competition during the cross country season, and we hope to do that again for this cause.
We are creating a scholarship fund that will be awarded to a 12th grade graduating student of color at Southampton High School, beginning with the graduation year of 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are holding a ‘virtual run’ as a way to raise money and awareness for this cause.
So grab your family members and run for unity with us!
To participate you can simply donate to the scholarship fund, or participate in the spirit of the cause by running 2.28 miles on Sunday July 5th, 2020 - suggested donation is $25 per participant, but all donations are welcome!
While we can’t achieve racial equality with one run, it is a good place to start by helping our own community and showing our support.
