I know that God answers prayers, but sometimes that answer is no. I am so sad to share that Marcus was called away last night and I am heartbroken. My heart breaks from the loss of my high school sweetheart, my Pumpkin, my love, my true best friend of 23 years and husband of 18. My heart breaks for our son who won’t have his dad there to teach him how to shave or how to drive a car. My heart breaks for our daddy’s girl daughter who won’t have her dad there to bully her boyfriends or walk her down the aisle. My heart breaks for our family who loved Marcus more than words. I am truly devastated. I ask that all the prayers you can send, please send. We will need them all the more now. I have to continue to trust God because I don’t know any other way to make it through this. I have to trust Him to help me raise these two beautiful gifts that He gave Marcus and I. The pain of having to tell your children their father has passed away and not be able to hold them or kiss them because of this quarantine! How do I ease their pain when I can’t yet ease my own? How do I explain when I don’t yet understand?

The doctors and nurses who worked on Marcus were so good to him. They prayed. They tried to resuscitate him for half an hour when such measures are not supposed to be performed on COVID-19 patients. They allowed his mother and I to suit up and go see him one last time after he passed when they don’t normally allow that. I am thankful for them and know they took many risks themselves to try to keep Marcus here with us. But God said not so. He needed Marcus for another purpose. And while I may never understand why, I have to try to have faith in God’s plan for Matthew, Madalynn and I. Please pray that we keep the faith and have comfort and some peace during this incredibly trying time. Thank you

From his work family: Marcus was one the most devoted, most hardworking person I've ever met. He brought with him what the Navy instilled; tenacity.  Marcus hit the ground running when he started working at SBA and did hard work to make work easy for all of us in the office. Most importantly, Marcus always shed light on a bad situation in the office. No matter how impossible something seemed; Marcus made it possible and seemed to have fun while doing it which was weird! We'll always remember our one-on-one talks whether it be about work, life, or different craft beers. Marcus was very easy to talk to. Something about his attention made us comfortable to be around him. Marcus genuinely cared about helping his coworkers and employees of SBA. It's hard to accept the fact that he will no longer sit with us, work with us, eat with us,  yell at us, and laugh with us. There's a void in our hearts because Marcus is gone. I'd rather not think of that and rather fill it with the great memories that he left for us to keep us moving on and accomplish our mission no matter what that may be. Marcus carried on with him the Navy core values of HONOR,  COURAGE, AND COMMITMENT.  Please remember that he worked relentlessly in support of this COVID-19 disaster. Everyone...listen to Marcus' soft voice in your ear, "just get it done."  Apply that simple saying in your life no matter what it is. It can be a job, it can be to tell someone you love them, it can be spend time with your family,  it can be to finish that last beer! Just get it done because life is too short to dismiss the littlest things. Marcus is indeed a hero!

We will truly miss a friend, a father, and a brother in arms. Non sibi sed patriae and Semper Fidelis, brother.  God bless you and your family. With Love, Your work family
