During the last week of April, we're traveling by boat to the People's Climate March in Washington, D.C. carrying a simple message: There will be no jobs and no food on a dead planet.
For those of us who work the sea, climate denial is the real ‘job killer.’ Whether it’s rising ocean temperatures or dwindling fish stocks, we see the effects of climate change every day. We’re proud of our role feeding the nation, but there won’t be food to catch or grow unless we tackle climate change.
On our journey we’ll be highlighting blue-collar innovations to the climate crisis and food insecurity, including vertical ocean farming and the growing national network of community supported fisheries.
With the support of world-renowned chefs Rene Redzepi and David Chang , Bioneers ,
Sierra Club , NRDC , Oceana, Ben & Jerry's, Dr. Bronner's, and others, we cast off on April 24th and arrive in D.C on the 29th, the day of the March. Aboard the vessel will be commercial fishermen Bren Smith, oysterman Ron Gautreau, and others.
