26 miles for muscular dystrophy

Donation protected
I lost a good friend, Margaret "Muffi" Lavigne, on Monday, February 29, 2016. Muffi lived in the Respiratory Care Unit at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, CT, where she met, fell in love with, and married one of my dearest life-long friends, Chris Plum.  Above, you can watch a documentary about Chris and Muffi's lives and their incredible love story.

Muffi had, and Chris has, muscular dystrophy, a degenerative condition marked by progressively worsening muscle weakness.  I would be loath, though, to say that Muffi "suffered" from muscular dystrophy.  She accomplished more than most in her tragically shortened life, and served as a real inspiration to so many.  Muffi worked tirelessly as an advocate for people with disabilities.  She painted, took beautiful photographs, and published calanders and prints.  She touched so many people through her grace and kindness, her gentle honesty and acceptance, her grit, strength,  and perseverence.

A dream which Muffi did not have time to fulfill was to oversee the construction of an accessible labyrinth.  A labyrinth, not to be confused with a maze, is an elaborate, circuitous construction that leads one along a winding, folding path.  The path is tortuous but never forks, so it's impossible to get lost.  Walking a labyrinth is something of an exercise in trust.  You can't see very far in front or behind, and you don't know the length of the path or how far along it you've traveled, but you can rest assured that you're being guided unerringly.  It's a beautiful metaphor.

Muffi's husband, Chris, is organizing a gofundme campaign (https://www.gofundme.com/MuffiLabyrinth) to fund the construction of Muffi's labyrinth, and I want to help.

I'll be running a marathon in Nashville, TN, on April 30, and I would love for you to sponsor me, to support me in my goal of raising $2000: $1,000 to add to the fund for Muffi's labyrinth, and $1,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, an advocacy and research organization.

Please give what you can.
