Campaign Story (English):

Just a few years ago, my world looked completely different.

I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and like many Afghan girls, I grew up believing education would shape my future, but politics and war had other plans. In 2010, my family fled to India after my father was threatened by the Taliban because of his work with the British government. For years, we lived between uncertainty and hope, renewing visas and believing Afghanistan might one day be safe again.

But in 2020, during the pandemic, we returned to Kabul. For a short time, I continued studying online until the summer of 2021, when everything changed.

Someone knocked on our door, shouting:

“The Taliban are everywhere!”

When I looked outside, what struck me most was not the armed men; it was the silence. There were no women, no girls walking to school, no mothers, no students, no ordinary life. It felt as though a part of my world had disappeared. The Taliban quickly imposed rules that erased women from public life, from education, and from opportunity itself.

My family tried desperately to escape, governments we had trusted did not respond, and we were stranded in fear.

Then, a light appeared.

Sophia Swire and her organisation, Future Brilliance, responded to my desperate message and fought for our visas to Pakistan. She not only helped save us physically, she also restored my hope. She told me:

“You need to open your wings; without them, you cannot fly.”

Through Future Brilliance, I met the Spanish Ambassador, José Antonio, and the extraordinary team at the Embassy of Spain in Islamabad, who welcomed us with compassion and humanity. I was offered the opportunity to work as a translator, helping other Afghan women share their stories. I was 18 years old.

For the first time in months, we felt truly heard, words became bridges, and those bridges became lifelines. It was there that I discovered language is not merely words; it is an act of compassion, humanity, and, most importantly, empathy.

Today, my family is finally safe in Spain.

We are deeply grateful to this country that turned strangers into citizens, fear into safety, and uncertainty into possibility. I now study in León, learning Spanish and adapting to a completely new life and culture. Despite arriving without knowing the language, I completed my academic year and continued moving forward.

Rebuilding a life from zero is a challenge, but it is also a privilege I do not take for granted.

And I carry a dream that survived war, displacement, and loss:

I will become a pilot.

For me, aviation is not simply a career; it is a declaration that fear does not define destiny, and that a girl once facing a future without basic rights can rise into one without limits.

Globally, only about 5% of pilots are women; I intend to be one of them.

The path is demanding, highly technical, and financially intensive. Flight training, certifications, academic preparation, and licensing create barriers that are significant for any student, and especially for someone rebuilding life in a new country.

My total goal is €100,000, a realistic amount reflecting the structured costs of professional pilot training, certifications, and required flight hours.

Hace solo unos años, mi mundo se veía completamente diferente.

Nací en Kabul, Afganistán, y como muchas niñas afganas, crecí creyendo que la educación moldearía mi futuro, pero la política y la guerra tenían otros planes. En 2010, mi familia huyó a la India después de que mi padre fuera amenazado por los talibanes debido a su trabajo con el gobierno británico. Durante años, vivimos entre la incertidumbre y la esperanza, renovando visas y creyendo que algún día Afganistán podría ser seguro nuevamente.

Pero en 2020, durante la pandemia, regresamos a Kabul. Por un corto tiempo continué estudiando en línea, hasta el verano de 2021, cuando todo cambió.

Alguien golpeó nuestra puerta, gritando:

“Los talibanes están por todas partes.”

Cuando miré afuera, lo que más me impactó no fueron los hombres armados, era el silencio. No había mujeres, no había niñas caminando a la escuela, madres, estudiantes ni vida cotidiana. Sentí como si una parte de mi mundo hubiera desaparecido. Los talibanes impusieron rápidamente reglas que borraban a las mujeres de la vida pública, de las escuelas y de la oportunidad misma.

Mi familia intentó escapar desesperadamente, los gobiernos en los que confiábamos no respondieron, estábamos atrapados en el miedo.

Entonces apareció una luz.

Sophia Swire y su organización, Future Brilliance, respondieron a mi mensaje desesperado y lucharon por nuestras visas hacia Pakistán, no solo nos ayudó a salvarnos físicamente, sino que también restauró mi esperanza. Me dijo:

“Debes abrir tus alas, sin ellas, no puedes volar.”

A través de Future Brilliance, conocí al Embajador de España, José Antonio, y al extraordinario equipo de la Embajada de España en Islamabad, quienes nos recibieron con compasión y humanidad. Me ofrecieron la oportunidad de trabajar como traductora, ayudando a otras mujeres afganas a compartir sus historias, tenía 18 años.

Por primera vez en meses, nos sentimos realmente escuchados, las palabras se convirtieron en puentes, y esos puentes en salvavidas.

Allí descubrí que el lenguaje no son solo palabras, es un acto de amor, compasión y, lo más importante, empatía.

Hoy, mi familia finalmente está a salvo en España.

Estamos profundamente agradecidos a este país que convirtió a los extraños en ciudadanos, el miedo en seguridad y la incertidumbre en posibilidad. Ahora estudio en León, aprendiendo español y adaptándome a una vida y cultura completamente nuevas. A pesar de llegar sin conocer el idioma, completé mi año académico y sigo avanzando.

Reconstruir una vida desde cero es un desafío, pero también es un privilegio que no doy por sentado.

Y llevo conmigo un sueño que sobrevivió a la guerra, el desplazamiento y la pérdida:

Quiero ser piloto.

Para mí, la aviación no es simplemente una carrera, es una declaración de que el miedo no define el destino y de que una niña que enfrentó un futuro sin derechos básicos puede elevarse hacia uno sin límites.

A nivel mundial, solo alrededor del 5% de los pilotos son mujeres, yo quiero ser una de ellas.

El camino es exigente, técnico y financieramente intenso, la formación de vuelo, las certificaciones, la preparación académica y las licencias crean barreras significativas para cualquier estudiante, y especialmente para alguien que reconstruye su vida en un país nuevo.

Mi meta total es de 100.000 €, una cantidad realista que refleja los costos estructurados de la formación profesional de piloto, certificaciones y horas de vuelo necesarias.

Cada donación, grande o pequeña, acerca este sueño a la realidad.
