My name is Dennis Levy. I am a community organizer from NYC with over 30 years experience working for people. I'm raising funds to help my brother Rick Levy with his legal fees.. Rick was 64 years old in September of 2015 and the oldest Child Care Worker when he was wrongfully terminated from his life long job.. My Brother believes his former employer one the oldest foster care agency in Long Island, NY terminated him unjustly and unfairly after 22 years of dedicated service . Rick supervised inner city kids from all 5 boroughs in NY placed at the residential treatment center (RTC) . My brother Rick had a God given gift that allowed him to connect with boys and girls of all ethnicity between the ages of 7-21 years of age who had serious behavior issues as well as special needs by giving them hope and showing genuine concern for their well being . My Brother Rick in my opinion, was a classic victim of Ageism 'Employment Age Discrimination' https://bit.ly/2KKVTDy. Rick now 68 years old along with myself at 71 years of age have been actively fighting for truth and justice for 4 years . Rick who's original plan was to work until 70 yrs of age was forced to retire due to the traumatic fallout of a wrongful termination. Sadly his wife who's health issues forced her to retire from the medical field as well prompted them to reassess their life style. Due to this untimely loss of employment Rick and his Wife decided after living in Brooklyn some years and then moving to Long Island for a total of 42 years it was necessary to relocate to an environment more conducive to their economic status . He and his Wife now live in North Carolina. Rick is currently under care with a Psychiatric NP diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, secondary to circumstances related to loosing his life-long employment. Rick filed a Federal Age Discrimination Lawsuit Pro Se in others words he was representing himself. His case was accepted in Eastern District Court, New York Docket #: 2:17-cv-00182(JMA)(AKT) Rick is in pretrial discovery which is a crucial aspect leading to a jury trial . Any mistakes could surely jeopardize Rick's chances of making it to trial where I know he will be victorious . Again being a non-professional and up against a high powered law firm who's using every tactic possible to make him slip up could consequently get his case dismissed even before trial . But my Brother and I both are God fearing and our Lord continues to guide and make a way for Rick. Our prayers were answered when God made it possible for my brother to secure a loan. Subsequently he retained a good Law Firm to continue his fight for justice and the maltreatment kids placed in care receive. Yes we were blessed and truly grateful to God for intervening at such a critical moment in my brother's life. To that point though Rick is still coping with overwhelming legal expenses ie; traveling back and force to New York for court as well as other legal fees incurred plus living expenses .They say your pride must go before a fall and God doesn't give us anymore than we can handle but he will surely test your faith. Again age discrimination in the workplace is a common practice of letting a person's age unfairly become a factor when deciding who receives a new job, a promotion, or just terminating an employees based on their age. My brother Rick is a good man welled admired by many who worked diligently in a very difficult field for a total of 28 years. His meritorious career as a child care worker touched the heart of so many young , angry, misguided and neglected kids . Being a absentee parent , role model , and mentor filled a void felt by so many young people seeking understanding and attention plus reassurance of a brighter tomorrow.
