Maliwanag na Pasko Fundraiser

Despite the best efforts of the electricity sector, around 20 million Filipinos currently live in unelectrified and poorly electrified areas. Without access to electricity, daily chores are more difficult, and livelihood, health, education, and security are adversely affected. As a result, tens of thousands of communities are deprived of the ability to develop economically and eventually escape poverty.

Founded in 2010, Hybrid Social Solutions, Inc. (HSSi) is an award-winning social enterprise that provides rural, off-grid communities and underserved remote on-grid communities in the Philippines with sustainable access to high-quality, affordable solar technologies aimed at spurring basic economic development. We have developed strong partnerships with technical innovators for high-quality solar products that are suited to our target market and also with microfinancing partners by means of our Solar Access Program (SAP).

This Christmas, HSSi is launching a special fundraiser to bring solar light systems and fans to the Community Centers of our microfinance partners. These Community Centers are the focal point of community organizing for women’s empowerment, financial inclusion and economic development in the rural and off-grid areas we serve. These Centers are meeting places of the nanays— the mothers who are at the heart of the Filipino family and our mission. Some of the Centers also organize educational activities for children and other community events. But many of these Centers suffer from limited or nonexistent electricity, meaning daytime meetings are extremely hot and evening events impossible. With the simple addition of lights and a fan, we can empower them to play their powerful role in the community effectively and comfortably, while simultaneously showcasing the important power of renewable energy to a developing community.

Help us reach our goal of bringing empowering light and comfort to 500 Community Centers this Christmas! Any amount helps, but here are some possible donation packages:  

Light Tier: For P1,500 (30 USD), you can contribute one solar light. For your contribution, you will receive a newsletter with updates about the project and beneficiaries.

Cheer Tier: For P6,000 (120 USD), you can contribute a solar fan to a Center to provide relief from the Philippine daytime heat! For your contribution, you will receive the newsletter, as well as photos and thank-you letters from the nanays.

Joy Tier: For P10,000 (200 USD), you can fully solarize a Center, providing three lights and a fan. You’ll receive the newsletter, photos and thank you letters from the nanays and a set of Christmas cards that you can share with family and friends. A certificate commemorating your gift will also be placed on the wall of the Center that you have solarized.
