Mali’s hydrocephalus diagnosis
Donation protected
On Wednesday 8/16/23 we received a message about a stray dog. After an hour drive and a visit to the emergency vet, we found out she did not have a chip. We took her home and immediately noticed she was unsteady on her feet and bobbling her head. First thing Thursday morning we scheduled a vet appointment and were hoping for a clean bill of health. The doctor came in and gave us the terrible news that was suffering from hydrocephalus. We were referred to NC States hospital, where the on call neurology vet was able to look over a few pictures and videos and confirmed our suspicions. She will be seen on 8/30/23 to become an established patient and at this time will need an MRI/CSF which was estimated at $5,000. At this point we will be able to see how severe her case is and where to go from there. Please help us give Mali a fighting chance.
UPDATE: on 9/1 Mali received her MRI, the images were consistent with the vets assumptions. She is a perfect candidate for shunt surgery. This will drain the excess fluid from her brain to her abdomen. She will be able to come off medications and live a mostly normal life. The surgery has been scheduled for January 3rd to give her time to grow. NC State is crediting her bill with $1,800 which is left over from the grant they applied to her MRI. The MRI only ended up costing 3,800, which we put down $2,000. $1,500 from donations and $500 out of pocket. The estimate for her surgery can be found on her Facebook page, Mali’s hydrocephalus diagnosis. Which is ~$7,900. This leaves us needing to raise an additional $6,100. Please consider sharing her story or a donation. Any amount helps! Thank you!
