The Interact Club of LaSalle is a community based service organization comprised of students from Grades 7 to 12 . We are sponsored by the Rotary Club of LaSalle. Our mission is to better ourselves, our school, our community, and our world by helping others.
We embrace Rotary's mission of Service Above Self.
We work to help improve the local and international community by :
1. raising funds to support causes,
2. engaging in hands on projects to help those in need, and
3. raising awareness about important social and environmental causes that impact the global community.
In 2018, we adopted Chilumba, Malawi as our sister community. We are currently working to help them get life saving water in their community. The money raised here will be used to help build a water well in this remote rural community which will allow students, just like us, go to school.
Malawi is the fourth poorest country in the world. Kids our age are not afforded the opportunity to go to school. One main reason is that they need to help the family. In most instances, going to fetch water is one of the tasks that mainly falls to them, often having to travel 2 to 3 hours on foot to bring home water.
Not having access to clean water, also means that the community members of Chilumba are exposed to Water-borne diseases such as Cholera, Giardia and Malaria. It also means that during the Global Pandemic of 2020, those living in Chilumba are not able to properly wash their hands and stop the spread of disease.
We need your help to get clean water to the children of Chilumba. We hope that you will contribute to this cause because it will not only improve the lives of the children in this area but may also save lives.
The Interact Club of LaSalle is also fundraising in other ways for this project. Getting funds from this gofundme is one component to reaching our goal of $10,000 which is urgently needed to initiate drilling a well in this area.
We were compelled to get involved when Rotarians from our local area visited Chilumba Malawi. When they returned from their trip they showed us the living conditions of kids our age, the struggles they face everyday and the hard work they must do to get water and how education is not afforded to all. We realize how fortunate and blessed we are and how we have a social and moral obligation to help other kids live a better life.
