"Major’s Fight: A Story of Resilience and Hope"
Donation protected
Some horses are more than just animals—they’re family. Major is one of those horses. He’s not only the longest resident of Devil Dog Ranch, but his story is also one of deep trauma, extraordinary resilience, and ultimately, hope.
Mine and Major's journey has not been easy. I sadly was in a toxic relationship. When the time came for me to make a difficult decision, it was Major who gave me the courage to take the leap. He was the reason I found the strength to leave the relationship. He, along with his best friend Gypsy, were the catalyst for a dramatic escape—a brave hand that reached out to haul them both to safety, away from a place that was no longer safe for any of us.
For years, I moved Major from location to location, determined to give him the safety and peace he so desperately needed. His journey mirrored mine in many ways—both of us fighting to overcome the odds, clinging to the hope that a better future was possible. And through it all, Major was my steadfast companion, the horse who never gave up, who always chose life.
Today, Major’s fight is still ongoing—but this time, it’s not just my strength he’s drawing on; it’s his own. Last week, he faced a life-threatening condition—a strangulating lipoma that caused severe colic. Against all odds, Major’s body managed to break it free on its own. It was a miracle. But the battle didn’t stop there. The trauma to his GI system has left him struggling with colitis—pain, inflammation, and weakness that still have him fighting in the clinic, fighting for his life, fighting to heal. .
Major has chosen life. He’s showing us that he’s not ready to give up. But he can’t do it alone. His spirit is unbroken, but his body is struggling—and he needs intensive support to recover. He needs the best possible care, and unfortunately, that care comes with a heavy price.
His medical bills are climbing fast, and we estimate that his treatment will cost close to $10,000.
And that’s where you come in.
This horse has chosen life. He’s fought through unimaginable challenges, just like he did for me. He’s shown us that no matter the pain, no matter the trauma, there is always hope, always a way forward. But now he needs us.
We’re asking for your help to give Major the chance he deserves. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a huge difference in ensuring he gets the care that is saving his life.
With your help, we can provide him the chance to heal, to continue his journey, and to live the life he’s fought so hard for.
Will you join us in supporting Major’s fight?
He’s given us so much strength—let’s give it back to him.
