I hope yall can help with our two new rescues. Please meet Mai and Tai, they are fighting for their lives at the vets office right now. They were found as strays and then taken to animal control where they were quickly diagnosed with Parvo. Our partners at animal control contacted us for help and we knew we couldn't let them be euthanized without giving it our all. We can't do this without the help of people like you. Please consider donating to save the lives of these two chiweenie sisters.
For those of you who are not familiar with parvo, it highly contagious viral illness that affects dogs. The virus can manifest into two different forms but the most common is the intestinal form. The intestinal form of Parvo affects the body's ability to absorb nutrients, and an affected animal will quickly become dehydrated and weak from lack of protein and fluid absorption. If the dog is not treated, this is FATAL. There are a variety of risk factors that can increase a dog’s susceptibility to the disease, but mainly, parvovirus is spread either by direct contact with an infected dog, or indirectly, by the fecal-oral route. Heavy concentrations of the virus are found in an infected dog’s stool, so when a healthy dog sniffs an infected dog’s stool, it will contract the disease. The virus can also be brought into a dog's environment by way of shoes that have come into contact with infected feces. Parvo can be prevented with proper vaccination.
