Hello All!
My name is Mackenzie Donahue and I will be the beneficiary of this fundraiser.
For the better part of the last two years, I have been in a sort of awkward "in-between" phase of my life. I have graduated high school within the last two years and have not yet enrolled in college. I also moved six hundred miles away from the place I called home for as long as I can remember. The last two years have been the hardest of my life so far and it's not even close. I dealt with depression throughout that time period. However all the struggle and turmoil I've undergone has finally culminated into an incredible blessing.
I've been presented with the opportunity to go to Perth Australia with an organization called Youth With a Mission, also known as YWAM. The trip I'm going on is called the "4WD Adventure DTS." DTS stands for "Discipleship Training School." This trip is a humanitarian aid/missions trip. The trip will be six months long, from January 2019 through June 2019, and it will split into two three month sections. The first section, called the "Lecture Phase" will be very similar to Bible college. The intention of the Lecture Phase is to prepare me mentally and spiritually. Partially for the second section of the trip, but primarily for life after the trip. The second portion of the trip is called the "Outreach Phase". This is the humanitarian portion of the trip. We will be off-roading through the Outback (thus the name "4WD Adventure") in the region of Kimberley Australia and visiting communities of the aboriginals. What we do at the village(s) depends on what the individual community needs. We could be repairing houses, turning a giant shipping crate into a classroom, or establishing a reliable source of clean water. We will also be spreading the love of God to the barren law-less area. Just to give you an idea of how much this region needs help: The region of Kimberley Australia has by far the highest suicide rate in Australia, over seven times higher than the national average. It's one of the highest suicide rates in the entire world. Because the area is so rural, crime is allowed to run rampant and there are huge problems with drugs, sexual abuse, poverty, etc.
The money donated will be funding my personal expenses for the trip. I will be working two jobs up until the trip saving as much money as I can, however I still won't be able to earn the full amount on my own. The organization will charge me about 8,000USD, I also have to pay separately for my own airfare at about 2,000USD. Plus general living expenses/spending money for while I'm there.
