My husband and I are trying to raise money to offset the high cost of adoption. We are so eager to start our family and we know adoption is God's calling for us.
There are so many children out there in need of a loving home and Caleb and I want nothing more than to open our home and hearts up to a deserving child.
A genetic eye disease, Retinis Pigmentosa, runs in my family. Two of my brothers, two of my cousins, and my grandfather are all affected with the disease. RP is a degenerative eye disease that causes blindness. Two of my family members affected are legally blind while another has very restrictive limits on driving that affect work and his personal life, at the young age of 30. The youngest in the family affected was 17 when diagnosed. It's a heartbreaking disease to watch develop and I am a carrier. While it is not 100% certain I would pass this disease on to my children, it is a 50/50 chance we would be taking. I've seen the affects this has had on my mom who had no idea she was a carrier. To knowingly bring a child in this world with that possibility is something I cannot bear to think of. This, added on to the fact we truly believe we are destined to adopt, has brought us to the step we are at now: trying to fund our first adoption.
Everyone knows adoption is expensive...but we had no idea just how expensive. Our agency fee alone is $19,000 that we need to pay before even being presented to birth mothers. The attorney fees range from $6,000-$10,000 on average, the home study costs between $1,000-$3,000 on average, along with many other fees that quickly add up. Depending on where the birth mother is located, travel costs could be extremely expensive as well. We are looking at a minimum of $30,000.
Any support that is provided would mean everything to us...it would mean starting a family. And we don't want any financial stress once we have our child since that is expensive itself. We only want to worry about providing the best care and all the love we can. We are so excited to grow our family and so blessed that adoption is an opportunity for us.
