Message from Matt Davis:
We've chosen to support Breakthrough T1D this month. Some of you may know, my youngest son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes last year and Breakthrough T1D were a source of advice, reassurance and comfort during the scary first months. They provided information packs, activities and soft toys to make it less frightening while we were in hospital. In addition to running networks to support children, parents and adults, they fund research globally into understanding the causes of T1D and identifying new treatments.
The charity have been a driving force in the development of new tech like insulin pumps that are now available on the NHS and changing lives. You can find out more about the amazing work they do here: https://breakthrought1d.org.uk
World diabetes day is November 14th and I hope that our event will also help raise awareness about the four Ts (Thirst, Tiredness, Toileting, Thinner) that can be a sign of Type 1 Diabetes. Fewer than one in 10 people in the UK who have diabetes have Type 1 Diabetes. There is nothing you can do to prevent yourself or others developing Type 1 Diabetes. The exact causes are not known. Although it’s often diagnosed in childhood, people can develop type 1 diabetes at any age - knowing the signs can help to spot T1D early.
Thanks for reading and for supporting Breakthrough T1D: the type 1 diabetes charity, improving lives until we find the cure.
