My Father, Nathan B. Smith

My father, Nathan B. Smith, has just begun the fight of his life by having to receive intense chemotherapy for the next 7 months to battle metastatic prostate cancer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer 14 years ago and underwent a radical prostatectomy.  Unfortunately the cancer had already spread at that time but has been manageable with regular treatments and tests.  During that time, he continued to work 5 days a week and has always kept a positive outlook. This summer things changed...and very quickly.  He suffered from extreme fatigue and overall lethargy but thought it was simply time to stop working.  Thus, he did so in July, and I suggested that he come visit me and my son in Santa Fe.  While here, he noticed two fast-growing lumps in his neck.  He underwent surgery and the results were not good.  His cancer has spread from his right sinus all the way to his pelvis.  He is living with me now, unable to return to his home in Houston any time soon.  Because I am his sole caretaker and because he does not have a steady stream of income, we are asking for help with paying the medical bills accrued here in New Mexico that are not being covered by his HMO in Texas, moving expenses in order to relocate him permanently to Santa Fe and overall living expenses for him for the next few months.

My father and I have a hard time asking for help and we have a great deal of pride but, as we know, “pride cometh before a great fall”. This is why we are so grateful to you for making a donation on his behalf.  We love you and respect you and pray God’s blessings upon you and your family and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
