Loyal needs material support. She is a Black trans woman from Philly who was locked up by Pennsylvania for two decades, then released into a pandemic and an employment crisis. She is a fiercely loyal, brilliant, funny, loving, strong person, friend, sister, and comrade.
Since her release last Spring, she has faced and struggled through so many hardships that we won’t list them here, but they have included illness, injury, betrayal, violent attack, extreme housing insecurity, unemployment, and constant transmisogynoir.
She has been able to build up a group of friends and supporters to help her in her fight to establish stability, a safe home, and community, despite the countless forces working against her. What she still needs is money. She needs money for a few months rent, for ongoing medical expenses, for food, transportation, clothes (she only has 2 outfits right now), and other basic essentials. While she continues to do the intense work of getting set up and steady, and while she heals from an injury that has kept her out of work, every dollar helps!
As her supporters, we are asking you to donate if you can, and to share with friends and family who are able to provide much needed material support for our friend Loyal. We especially encourage white people with access to wealth to aim high in assessing what you can share with Loyal. She is truly fighting for her life—not only in the sense that she is fighting to stay alive, but in the sense that she is fighting to build her life, the life she wants, needs, and deserves. It’s a long, difficult process, full of setbacks, frustration, and countless anticipated and unanticipated expenses. We have to stay in it with her, and that demands more than just moral support, it demands us collectively moving resources to her!
