With a heavy heart comes the news of Louis's passing yesterday late afternoon.   The Montanaro Family will use the donations from the fund to pay funeral and outstanding medical bills for Louis.

-----------
In December 2016, Coach Louis Montanaro went into the hospital for what was expected to be a short stay following a return surgery to remove scar tissue from a previous abdominal surgery.  The following 13 months was a series of return hospitalizations and 9 surgeries for what should have been relatively routine procedures, but hospital infections would not allow for proper healing along the way.  Ultimately resulting in the loss / amputation of his right leg, and two gastric bypass procedures.

Over the course of the 13 months to date, Lou has only been able to make it back home for 9 weeks total.  This means spending two Thanksgivings and two Christmases in hospital care.  Not to mention numerous family birthdays and holidays.

Prior to the first return surgery, which was the result of a prior surgery that left scar tissue in his body that needed to be removed, Lou was active in the community and still working part-time at Union Catholic High school.  A productive member in his retirement years.

Now, after 13 months in and out of hospitals, 9 surgeries, the amputation of his right leg....Lou Montanaro's hospitalization benefits ran dry...resulting in his personal savings and retirement income being used to pay his hospital stays.   At this point he has no income left,is over 5 months in arrears in his mortgage, medical bills, and household bills, leading to the potential foreclosure of his family home.

Lou's current state is that he is in hospice under Medicaid.  The doctors still believe that there is a likelihood that he can come out of hospice, at which time return home.  However, Lou's current financial burden as a result of these past 13 month's ordeal has left him virtually bankrupt and the house in a shadow of foreclosure, and currently listed.  This means that Lou will have no home to come back to.  This fund will help to get Lou out of bankruptcy and keep the house for his return.

For the past year, his family and friends have been praying that the doctors are right and that he gains his strength to return to the home he grew up in which is currently in fear of being lost.
