Hello everyone!
So this is my little nephew Louie Hiles.
We've known for a while now that something wasn't quite right with him since he was around 10 months old. He wouldn't respond to his own name, make eye contact with us, and kept missing milestone after milestone when other children were excelling, we were sure he was just a little behind.
As he started to get older, hit 1 and 2 years of age, he'd still not spoken a single word or attempted to even speak. Louie is continuously restless and doesn't sleep very much even through the night. He's 3 years old in January and has still not uttered a word, as of September 2019 our doubts were confirmed that Louie is on the spectrum and may never talk.
As a result of this Louie is now under going speech and language therapy via SALT (Autistic Spectrum Disorder Speech and Language Therapy Team) and behavioural therapy viral NPA (National Portage Association) where hopefully he'll learn how to talk or develop other ways of communicating with us (picture exchange communication system and sign language). Additionally, he is currently taking medication to help him sleep to give him more structure and routine.
Louie is an amazing little boy who lives in a whole different world of his own. Autism is a hidden disability that cannot be cured, he will be autistic his whole life, him having autism affects the way he perceives the world, the way he learns and develops and how he interacts with others.
I have decided to try and help make his life easier by raising money to make more people aware of this hidden disability that affect 1 in 100 people!
On the 1st of January 2020 I am going to shave my head to raise money for the NPA as they have limited funding and very little help from the government so they can continue to help more children like Louie and to give them the extra support they need.
I will also be dontating some of the money I raise to Louie to help buy anything he may need for extra help and support to help his development so he can live his life as normal as possible and get any additional help he may need. In addition to this, the hair I shave off will be donated to make wigs!
