My name is Adam Fearing and I am a “Big Buddy” in Wilmington’s big buddy program. A little more than a year ago I met Ja’Quay Locke, and his beautiful family. I am now fortunate to call this loving group of individuals family.
When Hurricane Florence touched down in Wilmington, it caused severe damage to the Locke family’s home.
The Locke family consists of:
- Kenyetta (mother)
- Emani (daughter age 14)
- Ja’Quay (son age 10)
&
- Kaylah (daughter age 5)
During the storm, the ceilings in each of the four bedrooms collapsed causing extensive water damage. Insulation and mold now cover the majority of the family’s possessions.
What was lost:
Kaylah’s room (dresser with mirror, nightstand, bed with trundle, majority of clothes)
JaQuay’s room (bedroom set, majority of clothes)
Kenyetta’s room (bed)
All living room furniture
Despite the family being in the house while all of this happened, their spirits remain upbeat and positive. They know many more families were affected by this disaster and they are grateful to be alive and have each other.
The goal is a conservative estimate of what it would cost to replace their lost possesions. If you are able, please contribute any amount. The funds will be used to get this family back to a standard of normalcy. If more than necessary is given, the excess funds will be donated to local charities to benefit others affected by the Hurricane.
