Lockdown Virtual Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race
Donation protected
As the annual Devizes to Westminster (DW) 125 mile canoe marathon, usually held over Easter weekend, has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic I have decided to go ahead anyway and do a virtual Lockdown DW in my back garden on a rowing machine.
I will be rowing 125 miles.
I will be completing the 77 portages around the locks by running around the house with a bit of a K2 kayak on my shoulder.
I will have a bucket on my head for the tunnel.
I will have water routinely thrown at me.
I will be fed and watered by my support crew and camp out overnight!
I had originally planned to raise funds to support the valuable work my godmother Kate and her husband Amrit do through the Himalayan Quests Foundation that they set up in Nepal. As lots of people following my progress have asked if I am fundraising for a charity (no-one believes that I might just be doing this for fun!) I thought I would resurrect my original plan.
I have always been impressed by what the HQ Foundation does, but having recently had the opportunity to work with them at one of the health camps in rural Nepal and see the difference it really makes to people’s lives, I’d love to raise as much as I can to support future health camps. These will no doubt be needed more than ever after the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic in Nepal.
So please give what you can to help keep me ‘paddling’ and running towards Westminster! I started on Good Friday and am due to finish under 'Westminster Bridge' on Easter Monday. I’m sure every time anyone pledges a donation I’ll have a bucket of water thrown over me to let me know that they have!!
