I am launching this fundraiser on behalf of Alejandra Centeno, a young Nicaraguan political activist. She has spent the past two years finishing her undergraduate degree in international relations at Loyola University in Spain, following her expulsion in 2018 from her university in Nicaragua due to her active involvement in the student movement. Alejandra also played an essential role in representing students in the national dialogue.  Her study abroad was only possible due to an academic scholarship from Loyola and support from the Niñas Arriba  college fund.

 

Alejandra is a fantastic person with a bright future. But if the pandemic has taught us anything, it is that we cannot prosper without the support of our loved ones. Alejandra has not returned to Nicaragua in over two years and has not seen her mother and brother throughout this entire period. Now she hopes to bring them to Spain to be with her as she graduates.

Estoy lanzando esta recaudación de fondos en nombre de Alejandra Centeno, una joven activista política nicaragüense. Ella ha pasado los últimos dos años terminando su licenciatura en relaciones internacionales en la Universidad Loyola en España, luego de que su Universidad en Nicaragua la expulsara, debido a su participación en el movimiento estudiantil azul y blanco. Alejandra también jugó un papel esencial en la representación de los estudiantes en el II diálogo nacional. Sus estudios en el extranjero solo han sido posibles gracias a una beca académica de Loyola y al apoyo del fondo universitario Niñas Arriba.  

Alejandra es una persona fantástica con un futuro brillante. Pero si algo nos ha enseñado la pandemia es que no podemos prosperar sin el apoyo de nuestros seres queridos. Alejandra no ha regresado a Nicaragua en más de dos años y no ha visto a su madre y a su hermano en todo este período. Ahora espera traerlos a España para que estén con ella mientras se gradúa.
