Toby and I have always had a heart for children with special needs. We have worked with children and adults with special needs for most of our adult lives. Then, in 2010, the Lord led us to adopt our first son, Toby Jr., who has Down syndrome, from Ukraine. He is one of the biggest blessings in our lives!! His adoption was truly a miracle of God! In a time span of 3 months, during the holiday season, in a recession, the Lord provided $26,000!!!
Over the past four years, we have been dreaming about adding more children with various needs into our home and, eventually, starting our own ministry. Finally, when our lives stabilized enough, we began the process of adding another child to our family. We put out our name and family profile out to many different placement agencies and prayed that the Lord would lead us to the child He had for us. Last May, we were matched with a little boy, in Bulgaria, who also has Down syndrome. We have been diligently working to get him home.
Last month, we took our first trip over to meet our son and instantly fell in love with him! After spending a week there, having to leave him in an orphanage was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do!
Although we have been able to raise a substantial amount of funds, we are still a bit short of what we will need to go back and bring him home!
So, here we are, with open hearts and an open home, bringing our "not enough" to God's "more than enough" in GREAT expectation of what He is going to do!
