Who We Are

We at Living to Thrive are a group of five University of Tennessee students with a passion for giving back to future generations. We believe to truly change our community, it must begin with the children who will one day be future leaders of our society. To aid in our efforts, we have partnered with a local non-profit that believes in the same goal.

Thrive Lonsdale is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that builds Christ-centered relationships by volunteers mentoring local children during their afterschool and summer programs. Thrive Lonsdale seeks to unlock each child’s potential by giving hope through a relationship with Christ, motivation to direct their own future, and providing academic support that will forever change their life’s path.

What We Need

In our pursuit to help Thrive, we have set a goal of $1500 that we will go towards 1000 nutritious meals for children of the Lonsdale community. Thrive Lonsdale currently feeds over 130 children a day through their after-school program. These meals help Thrive students have a reliable source of a healthy, home-cooked meal every night ensuring that the children do not go to bed hungry and wake up ready to start their day.

Thrive Lonsdale is in the business of changing hearts and minds through academic and spiritual support and guidance. The age-old saying of “The way to someone’s heart is through their stomach” holds true for this organization as well. Thrive’s meals cost $1.50 per child which equates to almost $200 a day! This financial cost can quickly add up for Thrive. We are making it our mission for Thrive Lonsdale to be able to continue to provide this blessing to the future of the community.

How it Helps the Community

Thrive provides free after-school daycare to the families of Lonsdale who otherwise might not be able to afford it. Furthermore, the financial burden of meals for families can be strenuous on the family’s budget. By providing free meals to the children of the community, the parents are able to focus on other financial aspects of life.

These meals benefit the parents but mean so much more to the child. Children grow and learn how to do life around the dinner table. Thrive’s meals contribute tremendously to the soft skills learned and later exhibited by the children. These skills and manners learned at the table might be missed due to food insecurity in the household. Thrive is not only raising Christ-focused children but also regular everyday citizens that will teach future generations what they learn.
