My name is Gianna Camuso and I am a unique female soccer player, from Seattle, WA, with the dream of playing as a professional.
I have just recently been recruited by Lexington Sporting Club in Kentucky to come and play for them in the 2023 season. 2023 is their inaugural season playing in the USL-W league. The inaugural season will be at an amateur level and in the 2024 season the league will expand into the professional ranks. A professional league that is being designed to compete alongside the current NWSL women's professional league. Lexington Sporting Club will be part of that expansion. The coach of the team, Alan Kirkup, reached out to me personally to try and recruit me to the team. I have signed with the team and will need to move to Kentucky. I am in no position financially to be able to afford the $5,000 it is going to take for me to move there and live my dream. Kentucky is roughly 2500 miles from Seattle. I need help!
Over the last 3 or 4 months my parents have gone into debt paying almost $10,000 for me to try and get a professional opportunity. They spent about $7,000 to send me to Mexico for a month and a half. I was referred to an agent and had a contract to attend tryouts for 6 clubs in the Liga MX Femenil, the professional league in Mexico. It turns out that the agent was not very credible and was full of a lot of false promises. Then in January 2023, my parents spent about $3,000 to send me to 2 separate professional tryouts here in the States. One was Racing Louisville in Louisville, KY and the other was Houston Dash in Houston, TX. The one in Louisville got cut short because of snow and the players were not able to complete the tryouts. In Houston, I drew the attention of a couple of coaches. I was not given an opportunity there, but they are the ones that reached out to Alan Kirkup from Lexington Sporting Club.
When I was 9 years old I realized that my dream was to one day be a professional soccer player. Over the last 10 years, I have worked really hard at trying to attain being the best soccer player I could be. I have taken a very unique journey and it is how I learned firsthand the meaning of hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. I train on average 6 days a week. Some of those days are twice a day. I train whether it's raining, cold, or even snowing. That is what it takes for me to be the best player I can be. I didn't get to play at the best youth clubs. I didn't go to college and play at a D1 school. I spent most of my time working on mastering my craft and I will humbly say I am very good at what I do. My parents also sacrificed a lot of their time and all their extra money to help me be the best. I have included a highlight video.
I am being given an opportunity to live my dream. It would be heartbreaking if I had to miss out. With the sincerest of gratitude, I am asking for your help. Anything you can do would be helping this girl live her dream.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Gianna Camuso #10 Lexington Sporting Club
