Lioness Circle Domestic Abuse project

Donation protected
My name is Lioness Tamar (aka Tamar Nwafor LLB). I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse and rape. Diagnosed with multiple mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), I have also attempted suicide multiple times as a child.

After over 10 years in therapy, I have developed a number of self-help strategies which have to embrace my experiences and establish my purpose to empower other women and girls' survivors from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community to thrive.

Becoming an activist of domestic abuse, a number of close family and friends have broken their silence with me and I've been able to offer them support and connect them with professional support.

To develop my skills and understanding, I've take many courses in domestic abuse, safeguarding and coaching.

This led to me setting up The Lioness Circle (TLC) with an ethos "for survivors, by survivors". We provide a peer to peer support network for BAME women and girls' survivors of domestic abuse, rape and sexual assault; one to one mentoring and wellbeing workshops such as healthy relationships and self esteem. I also sign post the ladies for free counselling.

We have over 20 women who regularly attend our weekly group sessions - most of them being single mothers with mental health and self-harm issues who haven't been able to access sufficient support from establish services.  With the support through TLC, our ladies are keen to break the cycle so the impact doesn't get passed down to their children.

I originally set up this project self-funded, since then I've received some support from Croydon Council and Homestart ABCD project. However after nearly two years, this well needed project is at risk of closure due to lack of funds.

I'm calling on everyone in the CommUnity #men #women #friends #family #teachers #schools #churches #businesses #organisations - please to what you can to enable TLC to continue providing a safe and non-judgemental space for survivors to be empowered and establish themselves irrespective of the abuse.

I am trying to raise £2500 in total donations. I know this is a lot of money for many people but I believe we can achieve this goal together. And this will cost much less than what it cost the UK economy for each known survivor on the NHS, housing and employment services.
