Lifesaving transplant for Louis and Theo

Hi , my name is Evelyn and I'm raising funds for my two beautiful twin nephews, Louis and Theo.

At just three weeks of age both Louis and Theo were diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. A kidney disorder that causes the body to excrete too much protein in the urine. What was meant to be a joyous time for this new little family turned into a very stressful, sleepless and long journey...still with lots of joy along the way.

No one could imagine that almost four years later the boys would go through countless surgeries, up to four visits to hospital a week and at one stage 40 syringes of medicine a day! The toll it has taken on their angel like parents, Kath and Jay, is unimaginable to most of us. Not that you would know as they are upbeat and positive 110% of the time!

But fight they did and will continue to do. At present Theo entered the next stage of his journey 10 months ago, daily dialysis as he waits for a kidney donation. 5 nights a week he is hooked up to dialysis for up to ten hours. Yes thats right a 3.5 year old staying tethered for that long each day. They sure are special boys. It is uncertain how long before Louis will also go through this process.

Two weeks ago we had the phone call that everyone was waiting for at 12:30am! A kidney! Transplant time.

Unfortunately the donar nephrectomy took longer than expected and the kidney was not viable.

Devastating to many, this experience doesn't seem to have deterred Kath and Jay. As usual they took away as many positives as they could. For example how well Theo managed the surgery preperation and medications that day.

One thing we did learn that day is that post transplant is a long journey. A parent will have to stay with Theo in between hospital and near by accommodation for 6 weeks , with daily monitoring for a further 6 months. And then it will happen all over again with Louis.

This gofundme is to raise much needed financial support for accommodation, travel, parking and unpaid work leave to Kath and Jay as they enter this next stage. Kath and Jay would never ask for help but I know there is so many of us out there that want to help in some small way.
