Help Me Escape — A Safe Boat, A Second Chance

My Situation
I’m trying to escape a living situation that’s taken a serious toll on my health and well-being — both emotionally and physically.
I’m dealing with ongoing stress and chronic health issues made worse by my environment.
It’s no longer survivable — and I don’t have a safe place to go.
I’ve already tried every option I could:
I applied to credit unions, marine lenders, and so forth — all refused because my income comes from disability benefits.
There’s no support system around me.
And if I wait for the system to help, it could take years I simply don’t have.
So I’m asking for help here — because this isn’t about comfort anymore.
It’s about getting out before things get worse.
Why a Boat?
In the UK, boats are one of the most affordable paths to private housing.
I’m aiming for a modest, livable catamaran — not a yacht, but a safe, self-sufficient home on water.
These are some of the specific models I track:
- Catalac 9m / 900 / 8m
- Prout Quest 31 / 33CS
- Prout Snowgoose 37
- Heavenly Twins 27
- Gemini 105MC (rare but possible)
These boats are typically around 30 feet, liveaboard-ready, and affordable compared to long-term rent.
They don’t need major repairs — just a clean break and a working start.
Once moored (especially in an estuary), the yearly cost can be less than half of what a small house would cost to rent.
This isn’t a dream. It’s a way out.
Living afloat gives me:
- Privacy and stability
- A permanent exit from an unsafe environment
- A quiet, off-grid place to recover and survive
Budget Breakdown
- £25,000–£29,000 – A fully livable catamaran
- £1,000–£3,000 – Survey, travel, mooring, essential setup
Ongoing Costs
Once afloat, my annual costs are drastically lower than land rent. Here’s a realistic liveaboard budget:
- Mooring: £2,200
- Shore power: £280
- Diesel (heating/light engine use): £900
- Insurance: £150–£600
- Maintenance/supplies: £700
Estimated yearly cost: £4,200–£4,700 (£350–£390/month)
That’s less than half the cost of renting a detached one-bedroom house in the UK.
What This Means
This boat will be my home — not a temporary shelter, but a space to start over with privacy and peace.
I’ve lived small before.
I know how to manage limited space, care for gear, and live without excess.
I’ve been quietly preparing for years.
Now the opportunity is close.
Boats in this range don’t stay on the market long — and I don’t have time for another one to pass me by.
Thank You
Thank you for reading, caring, and believing in this journey.
I’ve left out personal details to stay safe — I’ll share more once I’m securely moved in.
Even just sharing this helps more than you know.
If I miss this window, I don’t know when another will open.
Thank you for helping me hold onto that chance.
