Library Teen Room Sponsorship

Tax deductible
I work at the Stillwater Library and currently the library board is fundraising to purchase and rehab an old factory building in town to be our new library.   They are going through all the regular channels (corporate sponsorships, grants, foundations) and asking these entities to sponsor rooms before going to the community for a referendum vote in May 2021.

Here's the thing:  I work with the teens at the library and I want my teens to have the best space for them, and  I would be extremely grateful if some corporation would sponsor their room, BUT it would be so much cooler if our room was named after someone awesome (don't worry, I don't mean me) and so I am using my free time to try to appeal to those of you who love reading, libraries, providing safe spaces for young people and/or British male authors with crazy hair.

I would like our room to be named after Neil Gaiman.  If you don't know Neil, he is an author of many wonderful books. He has written everything from picture books for children to hefty novels for adults to books of essays to comics and everything in between and he loves LIBRARIES! (go ahead and google his name and libraries and you will see all the love, I'll wait......).

I did write to Neil - well, his assistant - but it's a bit of a long shot.  I don't know if he will ever see my email, let alone want to sponsor a teen room in a small suburban town in New York with a population of less than 8,000 people. I'm not saying he isn't charitable, but another non-profit may be more meaningful to him.

Neil is also my favorite author.  I devour everything he writes. I once stood in line for 4 hours to have him sign my book after working a full day and I smiled the entire time (and he stayed all that time and signed everyone's books - I wasn't last in line).  Here is an awful photo of me getting my book signed (but I look happy, don't I?)

So ~ if you love libraries, books, reading, safe spaces, small towns, men with wild hair, the British, upstate New York, teenagers or library assistants who really want to name a room after their favorite author, please consider donating a few of your hard earned dollars.

Thank you,  Michele
