Books for Detroit

Hello!

My name is Aria Oleshansky. I am a 10th grader at Groves High School in Birmingham, Michigan (20 minutes outside of Detroit). My sister, Evann- an 8th grader at Berkshire Middle School, and my step-brother, Joey Adelman- also a 10th grader at Groves, are volunteering our time and energy to help Brilliant Detroit, a nonprofit organization that began in 2015.

We met Cindy Eggleton from Brilliant Detroit this past winter. Through her passion and cause we learned that one of Brilliant Detroit's goals is to provide Detroit neighborhoods a community house to hold activities to help the learning process of kids from ages 0-8 to achieve more school readiness through reading and literature.

This is where we come in. We have always been interested in reading. From a young age, our mom (Ashley Adelman) would take us to the bookstore and library as an afternoon activity. Thus, Evann, Joey and I decided to build Little Free Libraries for every neighborhood Brilliant Detroit creates a family center in and every Laundry Mat Brilliant Detroit holds support groups and activities in.

This April, we are ready to install our first 3 libraries. Over the next few months, as Brilliant Detroit grows, so does the need for our help. We are asking all of you to help us cover the costs of building 5 more Little Free Libraries and filling all of them with age appropriate books.

If you want to purchase books directly for our Little Free Libraries, please visit amazon. In the upper right corner click on Account and Lists. Then scroll down to Find a List or Registry. It then asks for a name or email: please type in [email redacted]. This will bring up a list of relevant books that Brilliant Detroit suggests for their neighborhoods. They will be sent to our home, 1330 Stanley Boulevard Birmingham, MI 48009, and we will use them to fill up all of the LFL's we build.

Please support us in our support of Brilliant Detroit. With your help, we can all be a part of rebuilding Detroit communities through our Little Free Libraries.

You can read more about Brilliant Detroit on their website at www.brilliantdetroit.org.

Thank you,
Aria, Evann and Joey
