Help Rebuild Jamaica Zoo — A Symbol of Jamaica’s Love, Strength & Resilience
When Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica, it didn’t just tear down trees and fences — it shook the heart of an island treasure.
Jamaica Zoo, the first licensed zoo in Jamaica, the only privately owned (Non-Profit) zoo on the island, and one of just two zoos in the entire country, suffered devastating damage.
The storm ripped through animal enclosures, tore apart vital infrastructure, and left behind heartbreak in a place that has long stood as a symbol of love, perseverance, and family.
But through it all, there is one piece of good news: our animals are safe — even though many of their homes were destroyed.
For years, Jamaica Zoo has proudly carried our nation’s name — not as a brand, but as a promise. A promise to protect, to educate, and to inspire. Generations of families have shared laughter and learning here. Children have fed their first animals here. Visitors from all over the world have seen the warmth of Jamaica reflected in every smile and every creature we care for.
Now, that legacy is at risk.
The hurricane didn’t just damage buildings — it disrupted lives.
It took away the daily work and purpose of our zookeepers, groundskeepers, and local community members who have poured their hearts into this place. These are people who have loved, fed, and protected the animals as their own — and who now find themselves without jobs, without stability, and without the zoo that gave them pride.
But we refuse to let Hurricane Melissa be the end of this story.
With your help, we can rebuild stronger — not only restoring the zoo but also reviving the livelihoods and community spirit that make Jamaica Zoo what it is.
Your donation will help:
• Rebuild animal habitats and shelters destroyed by the storm
• Repair fences, water systems, and critical infrastructure
• Provide short-term employment for local workers during recovery
• Restore long-term jobs for our dedicated staff after reopening
• Reignite a sense of unity and pride across the community
Jamaica Zoo is more than animals behind fences — it’s a living symbol of Jamaica’s resilience, love, and courage to start again.
Let’s show that no storm can erase what we’ve built together.
Let’s rebuild the home that carries Jamaica’s name with pride.
Help us restore Jamaica Zoo. Help us bring back the heart of the island.
