Let’s Help Shirleen Fight this Battle

Hello Everyone,

 

As many of you may have heard or read that our dear friend, daughter, sister, aunt or coworker, Shirleen is battling a very rare and serious medical condition. For those of you who haven’t, here is a little backstory…

 

Back in January, Shirleen was rushed to the hospital after fainting at home. There, she was diagnosed with Dural Sinus Thrombosis, a rare condition where a blood clot forms in a vein of the brain and as a result the blood flow to the brain gets backed up and tissue becomes congested. She then was airlifted to ORMC where they found evidence of a stroke. After many days, tests, CT scans, MRIs and procedures in the hospital, Shirleen was discharged and had the ability to go home under strict circumstances. She is to never be left alone, and under 24/7 medical surveillance, has to follow up and have regular visits with five different specialty doctors, have regular speech and occupational therapy, suffers from severe headaches and experiences memory loss. Although she has had a hard battle so far, Shirleen continues to strive on, push forward and improve little by little each day. Some days are better than others but she is a WARRIOR and we are coming together to fight this battle with her.

 

We know that many of her friends and family members have reached out and may not have received a response. Please do not take this personally and understand that due to her current condition, any form of contact that may exceed more than two or three sentences overwhelms her and her thought process. She is continuing to work on her understanding and responsiveness daily.

 

We thank God everyday that she is still here with us. We praise him for keeping her safe and allowing her to be surrounded by the most amazing family, friends and support system.

 

Although this story was just a glimpse and summary of all of the many details, we try and not dwell on the past but try and stay positive and see how we can help her for her future.

 

Unfortunately with such an extreme medical experience, comes unforeseen financial hardship. We have set up this GoFundMe account for anyone who can and would like to contribute to help Shirleen.
