Lets help Narelle

PLEASE share. Whilst there is much misguided and misleading information regarding an 'abundance of kangaroos' here in Australia, the sad reality is numbers are drastically declining due to continued mass development. Not only the roos, but ALL of our precious wildlife.

My dear friend, Narelle THOMPSON from Walk On The Wild Side – Shelter For Wildlife, https://www.facebook.com/WalkOnTheWildsideVIC/ , has been a Wildlife Rescuer for 30 years now. I encourage you to visit her FaceBook page as there are no words that can accurately describe who she is and what she does.  NEVER does she ask for monetary donations nor does she ever expect any. She does it out of love and respect. The beautiful community where she resides regularly donate blankets, towels and other bits and bobs. Leaving them at her front door if she is not home (what an AMAZING community).

In the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires, she spent every last dollar she had – endlessly driving to and from the fire ravaged aftermath searching for assisting and transporting animals. She wore the cost of EVERYTHING from fuel, wear and tear on her car, food, equipment and even Vet bills - to the emotional and physical trauma.  She did the same in the 2014 Wallan Fires. The thing is, she would do it all over again.  She continues to give that and more. Regardless of the time of day and whatever she is doing at that moment, she will drop everything and do her utmost best to get to the animal in need.  She is my hero.

The welfare of the animal is her priority. She handles matters with the utmost respect and for those that are beyond “life” saving, she ensures they are comfortable and speaks loving, gentle words to them in their final moments. I write this with a heavy heart right now. Yesterday was an extremely tough day for her and many could not be saved.  However, I am extremely grateful that Narelle was with them in their final moments showering them with love.

These are her words from one of her posts on her page “A small portion of the rescues/callouts in the last week. I'm on my own mostly, so time and the situation doesn't allow me to take photos of every rescue. Some happy endings, some not so much. Thank you to each and everyone of you precious ones that have crossed my path in the last week. May you journey well and stay safe and for those I have in care, I will continue to love and heal you so you can return to the wild where you belong. Thanks so much Kim for always helping when you can and to Andrew for coming out to Ryan Roo. Big thanks to Suzie for picking up and transporting a couple of urgent cases - that was a MASSIVE MASSIVE help .”

After being prompted by another dear friend of ours, I have set up this GoFundMe page to assist her. At the moment, her car is extremely unreliable. It is at the mechanic as I type this. This means she is unable to attend to any rescues unless she is offered a lift. She has given so much to our precious wildlife, so along with your help, I would love to reciprocate some of that kindness in her time of need.

There are not many rescuers like her out there with her method and approach of rescuing.  I'd like to extend my invitation to you and ask if you could please help so that she may continue helping our wildlife. Every little bit helps – even if you simply share this page, it is greatly appreciated sincerely from the bottom of my heart.
