Let's Build Rutland, Vermont a concrete skatepark

My name is Brooke Geery and I grew up skateboarding at Zero Gravity Skatepark in Rutland. Now well beyond the age many people quit skateboarding, I am still passionate about it largely because of the community and friends I made in those formative years of my life spent at the park.

I moved away and when I returned to Rutland after 20 years, I was excited to see Flipside was still going strong, that is, until Covid-19. During the pandemic, the Rec Department decided the resources required to keep a seasonal indoor wood park up and running would be better used elsewhere. They promised to build a concrete park in its place, but that was summer of 2021 and almost no progress has been made.

So, I am stepping up to lead fundraising and planning efforts to make this project a reality. The mayor and Rutland and Board of Alderman are already involved in the process and I am confident with a little push (and some cash) from those who see the value in having a safe, fun place for kids who might not fit into traditional sports to go is a huge asset to the community.

All funds raised will be given to the Rutland Recreation Department and it is my sincere belief that if we meet this goal, the city will step up to fund the rest of the project. Quality public skateparks can cost anywhere from $250,000-$500,000 (or more) so let's help get Rutland a place we can all be proud of!
