Leslie Walter Memorial Fund
Spende geschützt
A dear friend of ours, Dawn Rotellini, recently lost one of her closest friends, her sister in law to cancer. While many of us never had the opportunity to meet Leslie, we felt like we had. The admiration and love Dawn felt for her was evident in the way she spoke about Leslie's strength, courage and her love and commitment to her family. As friends, you want to do something to help ease the burden Leslie's family is carrying so we decided to create the Leslie Walter Memorial Fund in tribute to the amazing woman described by her friend and sister in law Dawn.
On April 7th, 2015, Leslie Walter passed away after a hard fought battle with breast cancer. She was 45 years old. Leslie leaves behind her loving husband Jim and two beautiful, amazing daughters, Emma (13) & Lily (9). For those of you not familiar with my sister-in-law’s story, Leslie was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago. Jim and Leslie were happily married for 15 years and were blessed with incredible friends and a loving family.
For Leslie, family was everything. She was a tireless advocate for her daughters, and other family members. Leslie and Jim formed a walk team to raise money in support of autism services and research in honor of their youngest daughter Lily, and Leslie helped me with our walk team raising money for the local hemophilia chapter in support of her nephew (my son) Gino. Leslie was so proud of her two daughters and attended every dance recital, musical performance and talent show for Emma, and championed for Lily to receive the needed services that she knew would help her daughter to reach her potential.
Leslie was determined that life for her family would continue as “normal” as she fought her battle with cancer. She refused to allow cancer to define her. Leslie fought to the very end of her life – even determined to have a chemo treatment while she was in hospice. She was a warrior. She never gave up. Tragically, Jim is now faced with one of the most heartbreaking situations one can encounter, the loss of his wife and the mother of his children. He and Leslie’s main concern has always been the well-being of their children. As you can imagine, the costs associated with medical care and funeral expenses add up quickly, in addition to reducing the family income down to one salary versus two. The costs associated with caring for two young children, one with special needs, their activities, healthcare costs and college tuition can be overwhelming.
Jim is a hardworking, dedicated family man and those who know him have no doubt that he and the girls will persevere. The family needs the time to grieve the loss of Leslie and try to build a new normal. As family and friends who may want to help but are not sure how, please consider making a donation to the Walter Family Fund to help insure that the future Leslie envisioned for the girls can become a reality. There is no established goal for this fund as any contribution is greatly appreciated.
