Legion Branch #289 needs your help

Branch 289 in Tsawwassen, BC has come to a point in our history where we need to reach out and ask for help to stay afloat.
The overall mission of the Legion has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for Canadian veterans, serving military and RCMP members and their families, as well as seniors, youth and those in our community that need assistance.
If the legion had to close its doors permanently, there would be nowhere for veterans to come when they need help.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have had to close our doors for a time, as instructed by the province of BC, thereby preventing us from raising funds. During this time, the rent and utilities still need to be paid. The branch is 100% operated and maintained by volunteers.
For 25 years, our branch has donated thousands of dollars annually to community organizations by way of student bursaries, veteran’s programs, veteran’s PTSD support dogs, assistance for seniors and to local hospitals and organizations for their programs and equipment. We receive hundreds of requests for aid annually and do our very best to help. The funds are raised by our Poppy drives, meat draws, and gaming revenue. The legion gives away all these funds. These donated funds may not be used for operating expenses and rent.
The nature of the Legion is meant to be a local community place of gathering, friendship and support. The health benefits of older adult socialization are well documented. An improvement in physical and emotional health, including reduced stress, depression and anxiety, and a longer lifespan are some of the many positive results of high levels of socialization in seniors.
A veteran does not need to be a member to walk into a Legion for help at any time, and a member need not be a veteran. Many family members of veterans have legion memberships. Our legion offers opportunities for activities such as darts, pool, card games, and entertainment by local bands.
