Legal fund to fight injustice & unfair dismissal

Hello, my name is Isabelle Defoe.

In 1990, I co-founded a charity for the homeless in London. I dedicated 29 years of my life to see the organisation flourish, creating 40 flats and housing hundreds of homeless people over the years.

In September 2019, I lost my life’s work at the hands of the charity‘s Chair of trustees and her son, who was a work colleague in the charity.  My husband, who was working alongside me since 2016, also lost his work because of these individuals.

From March 2018, the Chair of trustees, supported by her son, started a hostile take-over of the organisation.  The Chair and her son falsely accused my husband of costing the charity hefty sums of money  by not performing his job. She autonomously suspended him after making further false allegations against him.

To make things worse, she and her son locked me out of my office where I had worked all those years!

We both raised a long list of grievances against the Chair. She did everything in her power not to have to answer to her many lies and to our grievances. She breached untold times the ACAS code to prevent us from having a fair and independent grievance hearing;  she appointed a new CEO and using him as a pawn, devised a fake ‘restructure’ that rendered our jobs obsolete but kept her son’s position safe. That CEO suspended me a mere 10 days after his appointment!

The Chair vilified our name, our work ethics, our integrity and our character within the organisation and with outsiders, with a complete disregard for my long-standing service to the charity and for the detrimental effects her actions had on our health.

In December 2019, we filed a claim for unfair dismissal with the employment tribunal. Since then, we have been trawling through hundreds of documents, drafting our witness statements, exposing the truth and the injustice that we have been subjected to for some very long and dark 18 months.

D. and I have suffered from stress, anxiety, depression and severe PTSD symptoms since the Chair’s first attack on us in March 2018.

This case has drained us emotionally and in many other ways. We now need to call out to the kindness, compassion and generosity of people who could help fund our legal fees.   We cannot fight without legal support as our case is just too extensive and the process is quite complex. A 10 day hearing is scheduled for the end of December 2021.

My husband and I are now living with deteriorated mental health.  We have recently been referred to a Mental Health Team for complex PTSD evaluation. Every day is a challenge.

Any financial help towards our legal fees will mean the world to us. We thank you for considering bringing some light into our lives. From the bottom of our hearts, we are truly grateful.

United we stand. And with your help, Justice and Truth will prevail. Thank you!
