Laurie Beall Horse Trailer Accident
Beschermde donatie
On Monday, October 28th Laurie Beall and her beloved horse Roxy were headed back from a show. As they were driving through Iowa they hit an unexpected patch of black ice. Their rig started to slide. Laurie was able to correct the initial loss of control but, in the end the trailer jack knifed and slammed onto it's side. They were stuck in the middle of 35W helpless, unable to move. They were taking up one and a half of the 2 lanes, right after an icy bridge. Laurie was trying to think of what she could do and saw a Semi truck was headed straight for them. She tried to put the Suburban in four wheel drive and at least try and drag the trailer but, it would not budge. She thought she should get out of the truck but, she could not bear to abandon Roxy. She flashed her lights and prayed. The Semi driver tried to avoid them but was unable to stop. The Semi crashed into the trailer and blew a tire from the hit as he slid into the ditch. A couple of cars stopped and they all were screaming and flashing lights trying to warn other drivers. Laurie could hear Roxy thrashing around in the trailer. The escape door was now on the ground with Roxy lying on it. At this point the cops had arrived and were able to secure the scene.
It took six guys to pry the wall off the back tack room while Laurie tried to keep Roxy calm. Roxy was down on her face but, they were able to get her up and out of the trailer. Thankfully Laurie is ok but, Roxy sustained multiple injuries.
Roxy has a skull fracture. She had to have multiple bone chips removed from above her eye. She has shoulder and knee injuries. Her road to recovery will be long and expensive. Laurie has already incurred a $2400 bill just to get the trailer off the road. The trailer is a total loss, which unfortunately will not be covered by insurance and there will be many big vet bills coming.
Laurie is such a bright light. To know Laurie is to love her. She is a beloved teacher, a mentor and a role model to all her students and fellow equestrians.
Roxy is a beautiful animal soul. She has taken care of Laurie for their twenty year partnership. She has been a fearless, generous competitor. She has been a loving teacher to many of Laurie's students. To know Roxy is to love her as well.

Love and light to Laurie and Roxy.
