My Volunteer Trip to South Africa

Donation protected
Ever since I could remember I have wanted to be a Child and Youth Worker. I want to be able to bring hope and light into the lives of children I work with or encounter on a daily basis. I have had the most amazing privilidge of working with a young girl who was born in a small town just outside of South Africa and had not long after moved with her family to Toronto. I grew very close with this client and we shared a very special bond. Unfortunatley, this client did not have an ideal upbringing.  She had been sexually abused by her own father and was struggling to come forward for a very long time. When she finally shared this, I did everything in my power to help her make the right decisions that would benefit her both physically and emotionally. After a few months of doing her best to move on, she took her own life. Sadly, she was unable to view her life in a way that would make her want to stay in this world. She was unable to move on and rid herself of the images that were her own father.
We spoke many times about South Africa and how if she could run away, that is where she would go. Although she was very young when she left South Africa, she always seemed to have this unexplainable affection for the place that she once lived.

This is the driving factor that has made my decision so easy when it comes to choosing a destinatin in which to volunteer my time. I want nothing more than to experience the place that my friend and client so lovingly spoke about and to do a little bit of good while I am there. This opportunity would mean so much to me.

My volunteer trip would consist of working as a social worker in a shelter for young children and in a sport development program for underprivileged schools in Muizenberg and Table View, South Africa. I plan to leave shortly after I graduate in May 2018. All of the funds I receive from this page would go toward my entire trip which would be booked though IVHQ (International Volunteer HQ). The support I recieive through this funding page is so grately appreciated that there are no words.

I am so excited and grateful that there are opportunities like this in the world and I cannot wait to meet the chidren of Muizenberg and Table View!
