We have known since early in our marriage that God had called us to adoption. We are thrilled to announce that we have begun the process to adopt a child! The Lord willing, we will be a family of 4 in the next year!
For those of you who do not know our story, adoption had always been part of our long term plan.
While Amy was pregnant with Brayden, she went into heart failure. She was given the diagnosis Peripartum Cardiomyopathy, which is heart failure that occurs in pregnancy with no specific cause or previous heart issues. Due to this Brayden was born 12 weeks premature, weighing 1 lb and 6 oz. Despite his early start, Brayden is a healthy, busy 2 year old. Amy made a quick recovery and is completely healthy today too, but as there is no known cause for Peripartum Cardiomyopathy, and a high chance it could reoccur, we are taking this as God directing our family to adoption sooner than we had originally planned. We are so excited to be growing our family in this way!
We are adopting within the USA. This is known as a domestic adoption. The average expense ranges from $25,000-$45,000 for a closed or semi-open domestic adoption. We have already saved a portion of what we need, and are applying for grants, and may be doing additional fundraisers. We trust that God will provide and will impact those who are able to give to support us.
We are surrendering the whole process to God and trust in His plan and ask you to do the same on our behalf. Please pray for the little one that will be joining our family and the birth parents who will be giving us the most amazing gift of a child! Pray for wisdom, discernment and peace for us, as it is easy to become overwhelmed with the process or let our emotions take over. Pray that our hearts will be prepared to accept and love this little one unconditionally. Please also pray for Brayden, that his heart will be open to this new brother or sister.
