We are a diverse group of Purdue University Northwest students studying the philosophy behind the concept of “community.” Through our research, we have concluded that community should be an integral part in our lives; however, it is seemingly nonexistent within our current society. We are working to change that.
Our focus is simple—We aim to raise money to help alleviate unpaid lunch charges at participating schools within Lake County, IN.
Our class has two main goals. First and foremost, we want to raise money to alleviate the unpaid meal charges at schools within our community. Second, we want to educate our community on the effects
of lunch shaming, and provide possible solutions to help students and families.
Research tells us that this bullying caused by economic hardship exists all over the country, not just within our community. Through this project, we also hope to encourage other communities across the country to conduct their own research and volunteer.
The money we raise will go to schools within Lake County that have debt from unpaid meal charges. Too often, these outstanding debts are handed over to collection agencies.
